Recipe for Awwamat
Lebanese Donuts
Ingredients: |
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup of warm water with 1 tablespoon of
sugar |
1 cup plain yogurt (laban)
1/4 teaspoon salt
Oil for deep frying |

Mix dissolved yeast with flour and yogurt, add salt,
beat well with electric mixer or knead by hand. Cover and set aside to ferment
overnight. When ready to fry, drop a tablespoonful into heated oil and fry until
golden brown. Drain them on paper towels, place them on a serving tray and
drizzle them with orange blossom syrup. If you wish, you can dust the balls with
confectioner's sugar instead of syrup. |
Syrup ingredients: |
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup water |
2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon orange blossom water (Ma-zzaher) |

Put sugar and water into a saucepan. Bring to a boil
and add lemon juice. Boil for five minutes, then add mazzaher. Cool and store
in glass jars in the refrigerator until needed. | |
